The 10th World Anti-Communist League Conference and the 23rd Asian Peoples' Anti-Communist League Conference met jointly April 18 at the Taipei Grand Hotel with Dr. Ku Cheng-kang, honorary chairman of the WACL, presiding at the opening ceremony. More than 350 delegates from 76 countries and some 500 government officials and distinguished foreign guests attended the meeting. President C. K. Yen welcomed the conference, as the leader of the host nation. He said: "We call on the free world to draw a clear line between friends and foe, fly an unmistakably anti-Communist flag... we also call on it to harden confidence in its eventual victory, strengthen the unity among free nations, display moral courage and fight unitedly to the finish."
Gen. Honkon Lee of the Republic of Korea, chairman of the 9th WACL and 22nd APACL conferences, opened the meeting with a declaration that "the barbaric deeds of the Communists cannot be stopped by negotiations, but by a posture of strength alone." Gen. Lee then handed over his chairmanship to Dr. Ku Cheng-kang. Ku pointed out that "a decade of struggle has proved that if the free nations will only resolutely oppose Communism, the Communists can never gain any advantage. If the forces of freedom will only unite and be strong, the Communist forces will wither and retreat." During their stay in Taiwan, the delegates visited the Republic of China's military and industrial establishments. They were deeply impressed by the rigorous and strenuous efforts made by our people in dedicating themselves to the national construction.
The five-day 10th general conference of the WACL and 23rd general conference of the APACL ended April 22. A joint communique emphasized the need to pool resources and strengthen anti-Communist forces for the destruction of Communist tyranny and for winning freedom for all, as provided for in the WACL Charter. It was voted to hold the 11th general conference of the WACL in Washington, and the 24th general conference of the APACL in Bangkok next year. The final event of the conference was a rally on unity for anti-Communism April 22 at the Taipei City Stadium, with 50,000 persons attending.
